How Viceroy Construction Was Born in Saratoga

We started Viceroy Construction in 2017 because we kept walking onto jobsites in Saratoga that felt broken before we even opened our tool bags. The framing would be square, the tile would be set, but the trust between the homeowner and the contractor had crumbled weeks earlier. We saw people paying for work that didn’t match the proposal. We saw change orders that doubled the price of a kitchen remodel after demolition had already begun. We saw homeowners who couldn’t get a straight answer about why a bathroom was two weeks behind schedule.

The moment that crystallized it happened at a house off Saratoga Avenue. A homeowner showed us a stack of invoices for a deck replacement. They had already paid for footings that were poured too shallow for the soil on their hillside lot. The previous contractor had walked away rather than fix it. We stood in their backyard, looking at concrete that would need to be jackhammered out and redone. The homeowner wasn’t angry. They were exhausted. That exhaustion is why Viceroy exists. We promised ourselves then that we would never be the reason someone in Saratoga felt that way again.

Our Founder’s Personal Connection to the Construction Trade

We didn’t grow up in a construction family. We fell into this work the way a lot of people fall into things that end up defining them: by accident, at first, and then on purpose. Our first real exposure was a summer job framing houses in the South Bay. The pay wasn’t the point. The point was the feel of a nail gun seating a stud exactly where it needed to go. The smell of fresh-cut Douglas fir that hit you the second the saw stopped. The way a chalk line snaps against plywood and leaves behind a blue line so straight it looks like it was printed.

What kept us in the trade wasn’t the building itself. It was the moment a homeowner walks into a room that we finished and sees it for the first time. You can’t fake that reaction. It’s the same look every time, whether it’s a small bathroom in Los Gatos or a full addition in Cupertino. That moment never got old. It still doesn’t.

We’ve been doing this work for over a decade now. Long enough to know that the difference between a good job and an average one is rarely talent. It’s attention. Noticing that a subfloor has a 3/8-inch dip before the flooring goes down. Checking the slope on a shower pan twice because water doesn’t forgive mistakes. If we weren’t doing this, we’d probably be doing something with our hands. We’re not wired for a desk. We’re wired for the part of the day when the dust settles and the last piece of trim goes up and the room finally looks like what the drawings promised.

Meet Our Team – The Person Behind Every Job

Viceroy Construction is owner-operated. That means the person you talk to at the estimate is the same person who cares whether your floor is level and your doors close properly. We’ve worked in residential construction in Santa Clara County long enough to have seen almost every way a remodel can go sideways, and we’ve spent those years building systems to keep them from going sideways on you.

For us, the work isn’t just a trade. It’s a way of treating people. We believe a homeowner should know what a job will cost before it starts, should know what’s happening while it’s underway, and should never have to chase down a contractor for an answer. That’s not a marketing promise. It’s how we run our days. If we wouldn’t want it done in our own home in Saratoga, we won’t do it in yours.

Our Promise to Saratoga Homeowners

Our promise is simple and it hasn’t changed since 2017: treat every home like it belongs to someone we care about. That means honest pricing, itemized in writing, with no surprise change orders. It means using quality materials from manufacturers like GAF and CertainTeed when the job calls for them, because cheap materials cheapen the work. It means standing behind what we build.

There’s a specific policy behind that. When something we’ve installed doesn’t perform the way it should, we come back and make it right. Not because a warranty clause says we have to, but because we said we would when we started. That was the whole point of starting this company in the first place.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed – We hold the licensing required for residential construction work in California.
  • Insured & bonded – Our insurance protects your home and our team while we work on it.
  • Local experience – We’ve been working in Saratoga and the surrounding Santa Clara County communities since 2017.
  • Strong local reputation – The bulk of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients in Saratoga, Monte Sereno, and Los Gatos.

Why these matter: a license means we’ve met the state’s standards for competence and accountability. Insurance means if something goes wrong on your property, you’re protected. Local experience means we know Saratoga’s hillside lots, its older homes, and its expectations. Reputation means people who hired us once hired us again.

Rooted in Saratoga

Saratoga isn’t where we work. It’s where we live. We know the difference between the flatland neighborhoods near Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and the steep, tree-shaded lots up toward the hills. We know that a home built in the 1960s on a Saratoga hillside has different water and drainage concerns than a newer build in the valley. We buy our coffee downtown, we know the quiet streets of the Golden Triangle, and when a homeowner in Monte Sereno or Los Gatos calls us, they’re not getting a stranger from across the county. They’re getting a neighbor.
